6 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Website

Nowadays, with the increased access to technology and information, building the online presence is essential for your business. A lot of small business owners and creative entrepreneurs believes that they can grow a successful business solely on social media or they only rely on the word-of-mouth referrals.

While it might seem like a great idea when you first start your business, it’s not the best if you want to grow it. Without a website, you’re closing the doors to your business growth.

Imagine driving across the town, just to see that your favourite restaurant is closed today (they don’t have a website and their opening hours aren’t listed anywhere else). Or seeing someone’s Instagram account with breath-taking images from their travel. You desperately want to find out more about the location they visit, you want to learn more about their brand or even hire them to take pictures for your business, but there’s no website or blog URL in their bio.

Sounds familiar?

THINK ABOUT IT:

What is the first thing you do when you want to find professionals?

What is the first thing you do when you hear about some business?

What do you do if you see someone’s social media account and you want to find more about them?

YOU GOOGLE THEM.

It doesn’t matter if you have an online or local (offline) business:

YOUR BUSINESS NEEDS A WEBSITE, PERIOD.

Why?

Let’s dive into the 6 reasons why your business needs a website, shall we?!

6 REASONS WHY YOUR BUSINESS NEEDS A WEBSITE

REASON 1WEBSITE BUILDS TRUST AND CREDIBILITY

Having a website for your business makes it look more trustworthy (aka legit) than having only an Instagram or Facebook account (the two of them seems the most popular these days).

The hard truth is that people won’t buy your products or book your services before trusting you first. Though your website, you have a great chance to showcase your skills, knowledge and you can be perceived as an expert in your field.

Sure you can post your work on social media, but they would be scattered all over your profile, but on the website, you can create a sort of “hub” for your target audience. The place, where they can see your work e.g.. on a portfolio page, know more about you through your about page, contact you and so on.

REASON 2YOUR WEBSITE IS YOUR BEST 24/7 EMPLOYEE

What is the one place that people can go to and check your business no matter where they live and whenever they want? YOUR WEBSITE. Your website (if it’s strategically designed) can work as your best 24/7 365 days a year employee that promotes your services and products while you sleep!

Your website can be accessed 24/7 from all the devices, so that’s why it’s important to have a mobile responsive site. Again, your audience can literally purchase your products or book your services while you’re asleep, so you can think of your website as the best marketing tool as well as your employee.

Your ultimate goal for all your social media profiles should be to point people directly to your website – to the place they can learn more about you, read your posts, see your work. Again as I said, your website is the home for your business, other things like social media profiles are just the funnels to your site.

REASON 3WEBSITE SAVES YOUR & YOUR VISITORS TIME

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, having a website for your business, helps you and your audience save a lot of time. What I mean by that is that for example, when you share important information on your website like your location, office hours, pricing, services that you offer etc. you’re saving time that you’d spend on replying to emails with the same questions over and over again.

You can think of your website as a huge digital leaflet for your business, explaining who you are, what you do, who do you do it for. What is great about the website is that it passive – you publish something on your site once and it’s there until you delete it. So you can post something once and it’s there forever, how cool is that?!

The strategic and functional website should answer your visitor’s questions straight away and they should be able to asses if you offer something that they were looking for.

REASON 4 YOU HAVE A FULL CONTROL OVER YOUR WEBSITE

Harsh truth – you don’t own social media, BUT you own your website.

You have a full control of your website and you can post there whatever you want to post. I hear so many dreadful stories about people which had great success on social media, but their account was suddenly banned or deleted and they basically lost their business because they didn’t have a website and their audience had no way to stay in touch with them. Sucks right?

As a creative entrepreneur myself, I know how your business is important to you (I treat my business as if it was my baby), so you can’t rely solely on social media, it’s simply not enough these days. You can’t let your business “die” only because Instagram didn’t like your post and decide to ban your account. You need to think ahead and again, make sure that you’re creating a hub for your audience, not just another account on social media with pretty pictures.

REASON 5YOU CAN SHOWCASE YOUR BRAND

Sure you can create a branded images theme for your business on Instagram, or create post templates for Facebook. They are actually both great ways to showcase your brand across social media platforms, but your website is actually the place that your brand should shine through the most.

Social media platforms, are overcrowded with people who do similar things as you do and it’s hard to catch someone’s attention there, to be honest. But when someone lands on your branded website, they can instantly know your “vibe” and see your brand through visuals (brand identity).

When you scroll down though Instagram feed or look through shops on Etsy, it’s hard not to compare businesses and to focus only on the one brand & business. On your website, you have a chance to share your story with your potential clients and make sure your story is seen. Once someone is on your site, you’re their main focus.

REASON 6YOU CAN BUILD YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE

As I mentioned, you can share your work and build your business on social media. And sure there are some people who had a great success without a website, but when they were at the point when they achieved their goals, without the website they were stuck.

When your business has a website, you’re creating an online presence for your brand and creating a long-term, on-going tool that can transform your business and open you to new opportunities.

I can’t stress the importance of having the website as soon as possible enough.

Ranking in Google takes time, so the sooner your website is up and running the better. Ideally, you should start with a website along with the social media channels, even if it feels weird because only your family and friends will see it first.

Ok, let’s recap the 6 reasons why your business needs a website:

4. YOU HAVE A FULL CONTROL OVER YOUR WEBSITE

You don’t own social media, but you own your website. You can decide what you publish there and it won’t be taken down without any reason.

5. YOU CAN SHOWCASE YOUR BRAND
